The Fascinating History of Topps Magic Photos
The 1948 Topps Magic Photos series is an early and unusual issue from the Topps trading card company.
Unlike conventional trading cards, Magic Photos were originally distributed with their photographic images undeveloped or not fully visible.
Collectors could reveal the hidden photographs through a special developing process associated with the original product.
Once developed, the cards revealed photographs of famous entertainers, athletes, historical personalities, and other subjects.
The complete Magic Photos issue included numerous themed subsets, with Series F featuring Stars of Stage and Screen.
The backs contain questions or clues related to the subjects, with directions originally referring to the product\'s wrapper.
These early Topps collectibles are historically interesting because they were issued before the company\'s later landmark baseball and non-sports trading card releases.
