Original Vintage 1950s The Original Pagano Pizzeria Restaurant Menu 3633 Walnut Street Philadelphia 7143 Haverford Avenue Overbrook Park Pennsylvania
The Original House of Pagano began in 1955, when Peter B. Pagano — a senior at La Salle College headed for a career in medicine — bought a hole-in-the-wall pizza parlor at 36th and Walnut Street with a $6,000 loan from his father, Charles, and built it up with his father and his younger brother, Theodore. First at 3614 Walnut Street and then just doors away at 3633, it grew into an Italian restaurant that seated almost 1,000 with banquet space for 500, known for its pizza, broasted chicken and shrimp, and veal parmigiana. It became a legend on the University of Pennsylvania campus, drawing students and their parents along with local sports stars and national celebrities. Pagano moved the restaurant to 38th and Chestnut Street in 1974 and ran it there into the 1980s.
