1953 SOUTH HIGH SCHOOL “SOUTHERNER” YEARBOOK
Salt Lake City, Utah — Personal Copy of George Stoll
Original 1953 Southerner yearbook from South High School in Salt Lake City, Utah, filled with handwritten signatures, messages, memories, and well wishes from classmates.
This particular copy belonged to George Stoll, a graduating South High student who was involved in numerous school organizations. His classmates wrote throughout the book, transforming this from an ordinary vintage yearbook into a personal record of friendships and student life in Salt Lake City more than 70 years ago.
The yearbook contains student and faculty photographs, athletics, clubs, activities, school organizations, and numerous advertisements from Salt Lake-area businesses. Its extensive student index also makes it an excellent resource for genealogy, family history, South High School alumni, and Utah history.
1. ORIGINAL OWNER — GEORGE STOLL
This was the personal yearbook of George Stoll, whose name and activities appear in the yearbook’s student index.
George was actively involved in school life. The index records his participation in:

Throughout the yearbook are original handwritten messages addressed to George from friends and classmates. Some are short signatures and good wishes, while others are longer personal messages recalling friendships and shared experiences.

Bingham’s Men’s Wear — 2042 South 11th East.
Glenn Bros. — advertising C. G. Conn band instruments.
Nu-Crisp Pop Corn — 960 East 21st South, Salt Lake City.
Less Taylor Motor Co., Inc. — 2309 South State Street — Dodge and Plymouth dealer, with “Taylorized” used cars and trucks advertised at 2261 South State Street.
Western King Drive-In / Dairy Queen — period Dairy Queen advertising.
Florsheim Shoes — advertisement identifying A. L. Hohman as Co-Owner–Manager.
These advertisements make the yearbook an interesting artifact of Salt Lake City commercial history, documenting businesses, addresses, products, advertising styles, and proprietors from 1953.
HANDWRITTEN INSCRIPTIONS
This copy contains numerous handwritten inscriptions from George’s classmates and friends.
