Goebel (Germany) "Butch" figurine by Albert Staehle, model STAE 16, signed and dated 1958. Staehle, famous for his Smokey the Bear character, became perhaps more famous for his illustrations of his own Cocker Spaniel Butch, who graced the covers of Life Magazine as well as others during the 1950's. Goebel produced this line of figurines depicting Butch in endearing situations, highly sought after by collectors today. Titled "Father and Son", it depicts Butch with his puppy tucked between his front legs, certainly a sweet pose. Beautifully modeled and decorated. Measures 3 1/2" tall by 3 5/8" long. This figurine has been kept in a display cabinet behind glass since I purchased it in 1996. Minimal glaze crazing. No chips, cracks, repairs or restorations.
