1959 Chateau Margaux 1er Grand Cru Classe Empty Wine Bottle – Original Wire Basket
Original empty 1959 Château Margaux wine bottle from Margaux, Bordeaux, France. Château Margaux is one of the legendary First Growth estates of Bordeaux, classified Premier Grand Cru Classé in the historic 1855 classification.
This bottle is from the celebrated 1959 vintage and retains an exceptional amount of its original period presentation. The original Château Margaux front label remains substantially intact and clearly displays the château, 1959 vintage, Premier Grand Cru Classé designation and Margaux appellation.
Especially interesting is the surviving original wire bottle basket/cradle, much of which remains wrapped loosely around the bottle. The bottle also retains its elaborate red and black neck dressing with château imagery and fleur-de-lis decoration. These elements give the bottle an unusually strong period cellar appearance.
The lower portion of the front label carries period Bordeaux merchant and American distribution information, while an additional period label remains on the reverse/side of the bottle.
A substantial accumulation of genuine old cellar/storage dust remains across the glass, together with historic handling marks through the dust. The bottle has intentionally been left uncleaned and unrestored to preserve its authentic as-found appearance.

Condition: Original vintage empty bottle in untouched, as-found condition. The main label is substantially complete and legible but shows considerable age toning, staining, rubbing, creasing and other expected storage wear. Portions of the shoulder labeling are missing. The decorative neck covering remains substantially present with losses and deterioration around the mouth. The original wire basket remains with the bottle but is loose, distorted and partially displaced. Heavy old cellar/storage dust and historic handling marks remain on the glass. Nothing has been cleaned, restored or repositioned. Please examine all photographs carefully for the exact condition.
