Vintage Soviet Ukrainian postcard featuring a beautiful example of traditional Petrykivka decorative folk painting by Ukrainian folk artist V. I. Sokolenko from the village of Petrykivka, Dnipropetrovsk region, Ukraine.
The vivid composition features large stylized red and orange flowers, leaves, berries and delicate ornamental stems, executed in the distinctive flowing style of Ukrainian Petrykivka painting. The rich floral ornament, expressive brushwork and intense red, orange, burgundy and green colors are characteristic of this celebrated Ukrainian folk-art tradition.
The postcard belongs to the series âUkrainian Folk Decorative Paintingâ and was printed in Kyiv in 1959.
