This sale is for a 1961 A Guide to Military Organizations and Installations in North Carolina 1861-1865 by Louis H. Manarin - NC Civil War Genealogy reference guide. This book was part of my father's collection of history books on the Civil War - especially as it related to North Carolina. The reference book is a genealogy of the military regiments and installations as they relate to the Civil War in North Carolina only. My father used it often as a research guide into the troops and their locations as he was researching possible battles and skirmishes throughout eastern North Carolina.
The book is in fair to good condition for its age. It is a hard bound book and does have some surface stains on the cover and inside the pages. However, none of that deters the reader from being able to still use this guide. Please see all photos.This book would make a great research tool for North Carolina Civil War collectors, genealogists, county historians, roster researchers, and anyone tracing local Confederate organizations and installations from 1861-1865. It was published during the centennial observance of the Civil War by the North Carolina Confederate Centennial Commission to create a new roster depicting North Carolina Troops during the Civil War. It lists Confederate Organizations, Confederate Troops, Union Regiments and Military Installations in North Carolina during the Civil War.I remember my dad at night sitting in his rocking chair with one of the books in his hands reading for hours and taking notes if it pertained to North Carolina. My dad was an avid historian and a Civil War Relic Hunter from the 1960's-1980's. He used his books to learn about the Civil War and to locate sites in Eastern North Carolina where he could search for Civil War Relics. I hate to see his book go, but I do not have a space for it and most museums and libraries already have similar books. It is time for this book to find a new home.I selling the book for my mom who now lives in an assisted living center due to dementia and a stroke. All proceeds go back to her for her use and care.
