About the Machine
The 1966 Bridgestone Hurricane was one of the flagship motorcycles produced by Bridgestone Cycle Industries during the company\'s brief but highly respected motorcycle manufacturing era. While Bridgestone is now known worldwide for tires, the company built innovative motorcycles from the late 1950s through the early 1970s.
The Hurricane name was used on Bridgestone\'s larger-displacement sporting machines, particularly the 175cc twin-cylinder models sold in North America. These motorcycles earned a reputation for excellent engineering, strong performance, and outstanding build quality that often rivaled or exceeded many competing Japanese brands of the period.
Power came from an air-cooled two-stroke parallel-twin engine featuring rotary-disc valve induction, a sophisticated design that helped produce impressive power for its displacement. Bridgestone motorcycles were also known for their innovative dual-range transmission systems, allowing riders to select sport or economy gearing characteristics.
The Hurricane combined sporty styling, lightweight handling, and strong acceleration, making it a favorite among enthusiasts looking for something different from the more common Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki, and Kawasaki offerings.
