Original 1966 University of Nebraska football schedule advertising matchbook issued for Union Loan & Savings of Lincoln, Nebraska. The vivid red-and-white design features “Go Big Red” on the front, a large Nebraska “N” on the reverse, and the complete 1966 football schedule printed inside. This is a verified FULL 20 matchbook with all original matches present and was manufactured by Diamond Match Div. in Des Moines, Iowa.
This little piece of Lincoln advertising survives from one of Bob Devaney’s early championship seasons at Nebraska. The 1966 Cornhuskers finished 9–2 overall and 6–1 in conference play, capturing the Big Eight championship and advancing to the Sugar Bowl against Alabama. It was Nebraska’s fourth consecutive Big Eight title from 1963 through 1966, part of the run that established the program as a national football power before Devaney’s 1970 and 1971 national championship teams.
