Original September 1970 Costa Line passenger accommodation/deck plan for the T/N Carla C, issued by Costa Armatori S.p.A., Genova. When fully unfolded, the plan measures approximately 24\" x 16\" and presents detailed diagrams of the ship’s passenger accommodations and public areas across multiple decks.
The purple outer panels identify the vessel as T/N Carla C and describe the piece in multiple languages as a passenger accommodation plan. The interior includes detailed deck layouts showing cabins, stairways, elevators, dining and public spaces, swimming pool areas, theaters and other shipboard facilities. Individual decks are labeled in several languages, making this an especially interesting surviving piece of Costa cruise-line ephemera from the early 1970s.
Ship History:
The Carla C had a long career that began well before she joined Costa. The ship was originally built in France and entered service in the early 1950s as the ocean liner Flandre. After later being acquired by Costa, she became Carla C and was also associated for a period with Princess Cruises under the name Princess Carla before returning to Costa service.
She remained in cruise service for many years and was renamed Carla Costa in 1986. In 1992 the vessel was sold and renamed Pallas Athena. Her career ultimately ended in 1994, when she suffered a major fire while docked at Piraeus, Greece. The badly damaged ship was subsequently declared a total loss and scrapped.
That unusually long history gives this 1970 deck plan added interest, documenting the vessel during her Carla C / Costa Line period, well before the final chapters of her career.
