Original 1984 SEPTA Philadelphia transit ephemera set commemorating the opening of shuttle service between Suburban Station and the new Market East Station.
This two-piece collection documents an important transitional period in Philadelphia's railroad history, when SEPTA introduced a temporary shuttle connecting the two Center City rail terminals before full service began through the Center City Commuter Connection tunnel.
Two original 1984 items included:
1. SEPTA Shuttle Brochure: Illustrated blue-and-white folding brochure titled The Shuttle — Center City's Newest Rail Connection Between Suburban Station and Market East Station. Features an illustration of a SEPTA electric railcar, information about the free three-minute shuttle service, operating hours, station locations, and a detailed shuttle timetable.
2. Commemorative Ticket: Original Market East Station – Shuttle – Suburban Station commemorative ticket celebrating the introduction of shuttle service and the development of Philadelphia's Center City Commuter Connection. The reverse features a detailed 1983 SEPTA Market East Station floor plan, including the Reading Terminal area, Gallery shopping complex, J.C. Penney, station facilities, and surrounding streets.
The commemorative ticket is dated June 1984, while the station floor plan carries a 1983 copyright.
An interesting pair of original Philadelphia transportation collectibles documenting the transition toward an integrated regional rail system.
Ideal for collectors of SEPTA memorabilia, Pennsylvania railroad history, Philadelphia transit, commuter rail, historic station maps, and vintage transportation ephemera.
