1986 CHALLENGER DISASTER SATURN CAUSEWAY VEHICLE Saturn Causeway viewing area for the January 28, 1986 launch of STS-51-L hosted government officials, family members of the Challenger crew, and other top VIPs. The bleachered viewing area adjacent to Banana Creek is still in use today and offers one of the closest launch views at Kennedy Space Center.
Larger 8.5" x 11" vehicle passes to enter and park on the Saturn Causeway, such as the one offered for sale here (No. 022), were reserved for the most important VIPs. Featuring detailed entry instructions and a Kennedy Space Center map on the reverse, this piece represents one of the most rare types of pass from this historic event. Extremely few examples still exist, as a very low number were issued and most were understandably disposed of in the wake of the tragedy.
