Aurora was founded in Turin in 1919 and, since its origins, has distinguished itself in the world of fine writing instruments for the quality of its materials, craftsmanship and innovative filling systems.
Over the decades, Aurora created numerous historically important pens, including the R.A. 3, with its remarkable repoussé decoration; the Etiopia, also known as the "trench pen", renowned for its exceptional ink capacity; and the Novum, featuring a patented filling mechanism that allowed the pen to be filled using only one hand.
This tradition reached one of its most sophisticated expressions with the Asterope, considered an iconic Aurora model among collectors. Its ingenious mechanism took the concept of one-handed operation to its extreme, allowing the user to open, write with and refill the pen using a single hand.
The experience and research accumulated by Aurora through these historic models found a worthy continuation in the 1997 Benvenuto Cellini Commemorative Edition for Hong Kong.
Produced in only 300 examples worldwide, this edition combines Aurora's long tradition of fine penmaking with the craftsmanship of precious metals.
The use of sterling silver and gold recalls Aurora's early expertise in precious-metal workmanship, already evident in models such as the R.A. 3 of the 1920s.
THE PEN
This is number 105 of 300. According to Chinese tradition, the number 105 is considered a fortunate number.
The pen features an original Aurora 18KT solid gold nib in Fine (F), an Aurora classic-style clip and a piston-filling system.
The pen is unused, New Old Stock and has never been inked. It is fully functional and ready to write.
BENVENUTO CELLINI
Benvenuto Cellini (1500–1571) was one of the most important figures of the Italian Renaissance. Goldsmith, sculptor and writer, he is remembered for masterpieces such as the bronze Perseus in Florence and the famous gold and enamel Saliera.
Cellini also wrote the celebrated Treatise on Goldsmithing, documenting the techniques and knowledge of Renaissance goldsmiths.
Aurora drew inspiration from this heritage to create writing instruments that combine the tradition of Italian goldsmithing with the company's own expertise in fine pen manufacturing.
