🚀🐟 THE YEAR WAS 1998. TITANIC WAS STILL RUINING EVERYONE EMOTIONALLY, THE INTERNET SCREAMED WHEN YOU CONNECTED TO IT, AND LONG JOHN SILVER’S APPARENTLY DECIDED FRIED FISH NEEDED MORE SPACE MONSTERS.
And thus, for one magnificent moment in American history, you could wander into a seafood restaurant, acquire several pounds of aggressively beige fried food, and somehow leave with artifacts from Lost in Space.
Nobody questioned this.
The 1990s were lawless.
This is the complete set of four 1998 Long John Silver’s Lost in Space promotional collectibles, still individually sealed in their original bags and waiting patiently for society to remember the cinematic event in which humanity looked at space travel and said, “Sure, but can Matt LeBlanc come too?”
You get the whole intergalactic fever dream: Robot, Major Don West, Future Smith and Blawp.
Yes. Blawp.
Blawp is the enormous yellow space-monkey-gremlin situation who looks like someone left a Teletubby in a microwave with a bag of circus peanuts and access to classified NASA documents. I do not know what evolutionary pressures created Blawp, but I respect that he arrived looking like THAT and everyone just continued with the movie.
Then we have Robot, an enormous blue mechanical unit built like a vending machine that has become self-aware and started doing CrossFit. Major Don West is here looking prepared to fight absolutely anything the universe throws at him, and Future Smith has arrived looking like the final boss of a Windows 98 screensaver.
Together, they are the four horsemen of the Long John Silver’s Intergalactic Hush Puppy Apocalypse.
All four remain sealed in their original promotional bags, complete with their original inserts where applicable. No children liberated them. No one sent Blawp on an expedition beneath the couch. Robot never became involved in a sandbox territorial dispute. Future Smith has not spent 28 years loose in somebody’s basement plotting revenge.
They have simply survived.
Four strange plastic ambassadors from that beautiful period when restaurants would promote absolutely ANYTHING and corporations were apparently one board meeting away from giving you a Saving Private Ryan action figure with your mozzarella sticks.
Complete set. All four. One glorious bagged-up chunk of 1998 restaurant-promotion insanity.
