Both views depict the Three Brothers area of Yosemite Valley and have small applied labels reading “Yo-Semite Valley.”
Of particular interest, the dramatic reflected view has been identified as a period reissue/copy of a photograph by noted Western photographer Carleton E. Watkins, generally titled “Mirror View of the Three Brothers, Yosemite Valley.” Watkins photographed and issued this celebrated Yosemite composition in his stereographic series.
The second view depicts the Three Brothers through the trees in Yosemite Valley. While closely related to photographs produced by Watkins and other important early Yosemite photographers, I have not positively identified the original photographer and therefore make no attribution for this image.
These cards were not published by Watkins. They are period copy/reissue stereographs issued by the unidentified New H Series / American Views publisher using earlier Yosemite imagery.
Both cards have matching yellow mounts with the distinctive diamond “H” publisher\'s mark. They display nicely as a pair and would be an interesting addition to a collection of Yosemite, California, Western photography, or stereoscopic views.
Condition: Very good antique condition overall, with expected age-related toning and minor wear. Images remain strong with good contrast. Please examine the photographs carefully, as they are an important part of the condition description.
