Few modern U.S.stamp issues make as immediate a visual impression as Views of Our Planets.Against a deep black background, this striking 2016 USPS sheet presentsfull-disk images of all eight recognized planets in our solar system.

The completepane contains sixteen Forever stamps, with each of the eight different designsappearing twice:

• Mercury
• Venus
• Earth
• Mars
• Jupiter
• Saturn
• Uranus
• Neptune

The images weredrawn from observations by NASA spacecraft,satellites and the Hubble Space Telescope, giving the sheetconsiderably more than decorative appeal. Different imaging techniques revealthe planets in dramatically different ways—from familiar views of Earth andSaturn to false-color and near-infrared imagery that reveals features notnecessarily visible to the human eye. USPS explains the individual planetaryimages on the reverse of the sheet.

The black sheetbackground and saturated planetary photography make this an especiallyattractive crossover collectible for astronomy enthusiasts, space and NASAcollectors, science educators, topical stamp collectors and U.S. philatelists—aswell as fully usable Forever postage.

Issued May 31,2016, at World Stamp Show–NY 2016, the pane was designed and art-directed byAntonio Alcalá.
