This round patch shows the Red Devil of the 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment, a horned red devil dropping under a white canopy with a rifle.
The 508th was activated on October 20, 1942 at Camp Blanding, Florida, and joined the 82nd Airborne Division in England in March 1944. The regiment jumped into Normandy at 2:15 a.m. on June 6, 1944, earned the Distinguished Unit Citation for action from June 6 to 9, and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. Its nicknames are the Red Devils and Fury from the Sky.
It measures 3.5 by 3.5 inches with a cut edge and iron-on backing.
A fitting gift for a 508th paratrooper, or a solid piece for a WWII airborne collection.
