Classic Guinness Pelican Artwork

The illustrated pelican comes from Guinness’ celebrated advertising tradition associated with
British commercial artist John Gilroy. Gilroy created many of the brewery’s
best-known animal advertisements during the twentieth century, including pelicans, toucans,
ostriches, seals, and other whimsical characters.

The pelican is especially collectible because it appeared among the earlier Guinness animal
characters and is seen less frequently than the famous toucan. The artwork’s humorous theme,
