Rare vintage M. Baughman Hand-Painted Mushroom Pot – Ye Ole House, Harrison Arkansas
A wonderfully unusual piece of vintage folk art featuring the mushroom motif that has become popular again with today's retro and 1970s-inspired decorating trend.
This hand-painted metal pot/pitcher has a warm mustard-gold finish decorated with colorful mushrooms, flowers and grasses. It features a distinctive black ribbed handle and is signed “M. Baughman.”
Even more interesting, the original Ye Ole House – Harrison, Ark. tag remains attached to the underside.
Ye Ole House was established in Harrison, Arkansas, by Mary Lou Baughman as a shop featuring the work of local craftsmen. Mary Lou and her husband Clifford were also associated with Backwoods Tole, a regional tole-painting business.
While I cannot definitively confirm that Mary Lou Baughman herself painted this particular piece, the M. Baughman signature combined with the original Ye Ole House tag gives this piece an intriguing Arkansas craft-art connection.
