I remember when the Daily News gave these out (along with pins) in 1995 and it seemed like every. single. pizzeria in Brooklyn & Staten Island had one of these on their oven & in their window. Sometimes I find one out in the wild and it is completely yellow with age and it warms my heart.
After 9/11 these felt especially poignant, significant and they gave us all strength. Those same pizzerias who had them up, made shrines around them.
