Beads acquired directly in Burma from documented local sources by an Italian gentleman collectorduring the mid to late 20th century

Forty-Seven (47) Ancient Beads

Twenty-Three (23) of Natural Rock Crystal

• Six (6) smooth, round, tabular in form, the crystal being of exceptional clarity, with probable date circa 1,200 to 2,200 BP.
• Sixteen (16) faceted, elongated four-sided in form, with characteristics suggesting a date from 4,000 to 5,000 BP.

Twenty-Four (24) of High-Purity Solid Gold

• Two (2) large entirely unique Pyu Culture floriform beads; cast, and carved or repoussé-worked; ca. 1,200 - 2,200 BP; acquired from Central Burma (Magway Region).
• Ten (10) seed or floriform Pyu Era beads; cast, and carved or repoussé-worked;circa 1,200 to 2,200 BP; acquired from East Burma (Kayin State).
• Twelve (12) very small tubular Pyu Era beads; repoussé decoration; ca. 1,200 - 2,200 BP; acquired in Scott\'s Market, Rangoon many years ago.

The Necklace

• Total weight 94.8 grams.
• Length excluding clasp 50cm.
• The necklace was artfully composed to its previous owner\'s design, and mounted by a Swiss workshop using high quality, hand knotted pearl-stringing fiber and gold jeweller\'s findings.
• The stylistically-appropriate clasp is based on historical examples and was hand-forged by an Indonesian noble goldsmith using traditional methods, simple hand tools, with pure 22K granulated gold, custom-alloyed with local silver and copper to match the distinctive hues typical of excavated Southeast Asian gold ornament. Its purity is at least 18K.

Provenance, Condition, and Authenticity

• The estate of an Italian gentleman traveller, scholar andantiquairewho obtained the beads directly in the field in Burma during the 20th century while resident in Southeast Asia.
• Condition of beads consistent with age and as expected for ancient material.
• Beads are complete, structurally sound, and without repairs.
• Distinctive original patina intact.
• Beads have been cleaned in accordance with principles of museum conservation using only soft natural animal-hair brushes with no liquids, oils or chemicals.
• Condition of beading strand, findings, and gold clasp all new/excellent.
• At buyer\'s request, authenticity and provenance will be certified in writing (C.O.A.), by an M.A. art historian, highly-regarded expert, and longtime scholar of Southeast Asian cultures, history, arts, and languages.
