A complete example of the trilobite genus Bolaspidella from the USA.
Thisspecimen has not been classified to its species but itsgenus is small, ornate and spiny andbelong to the order Ptychopariida
The genus is diminutive in size andare notably small trilobites. Most specimens measure well under 10mm, typically ranging from 8 mm to 12 mm in length. This specimen is approximately 12mm (see the photographs above).
The specimen shows thefree cheeks bearing distinct, blade-like genal spines of moderate length extending from the outer corners of the head.The eyes are small and prominent.
A typical adult Bolaspidellafeatures 15 articulated segments in its thorax although I have not counted these for this specimen.
The tail shield (pygidium) is very small and contains only a handful of fused segments. The thorax is significantly longer than the tail shield.
The trilobite\'s dark slate grey colour contrasts nicely against the lighter gray of the matrix.
