Some of the famous military men contributing shorter accounts are George Meade, Oliver Howard, George Crook, Abner Doubleday, Fitz-John Porter and George on this series: Authorized by the U.S. Congress in 1874 and printed by the War Department, the labor involved in gathering and publishing the “Official Records” of the Civil War took almost 30 years. The first volume was printed in 1880, and succeeding volumes were issued periodically for the next two decades. By the time it was completed in 1902, this awesome work comprised 128 volumes in all. Consisting entirely of original source material, the Official Records are an invaluable and authoratative aid to Civil War researchers. Thanks for your interest._gsrx_vers_1836 (GS 10.1 (1836))
