Ritual Artifact Dogon Mali
This antique Dogon shaman hogon artifact is a handforged iron chain necklace from Mali. The piece is authentic and unmodified, showcasing the cultural significance and craftsmanship of the African Dogon tribe. The necklace serves as a unique and historically rich collectible item, perfect for those with an interest in African cultures and ethnicities. Made with precision and care, this artifact is a rare and valuable addition to any collection.
Additional Information: Africa Adorned by Angela Fisher describe this ritual necklace as worn by priests and the Hogons, consists of a variety of links, some bracelets encasing power stones \"dough\", others with pieces of metal attached, iron bells, a looped ring or a bird pendant. The number and pattern of the stones are believed to give order and structure to the Dogon society. Necklaces of simple design with one stone pendant are worn everyday; on ceremonial occasions, these are replaced by chains of complex designs. Sometimes the Dogon incorporate whorls into fetish necklaces giving spiritual protection to their everyday activities. The necklaces are also guardian protection, usually worn by the oldest men in the village, the chief priest and spiritual figure heads, who assist the Hogons in practical duties such as preparing fetishes on ritual occasions. Like the Hogon (spiritual powerful Lebe), the elders and priests wear sacred iron and stone bead necklaces as a tradition of high status in the society.
