This is a very appealing old Remington easy-open jack, measuring 3 3/8 inches closed, with one of the more interesting advertising shields you’ll run across on these early knives. The round Endicott Johnson Shoes shield gives it immediate character, and the deep easy-open cutout along the frame makes the pattern unmistakable.

◆ The handles are beautiful old jigged bone, with deep brown, amber and darker age tones that photograph especially well. There are several old secure hairlines in the bone, including around the shield area and toward the butt, and I have photographed them closely so the condition is plainly shown.

◆ The master blade has a long pull and shows honest sharpening, patina and age wear, while the secondary is a combination can opener / flat screwdriver utility blade. Both blades retain good snap and solid mechanics. The primary blade does show a small belly from previous improper sharpening, which I have photographed clearly.

◆ There is no visible pattern number on this knife. The original bail/shackle is also missing, with the bail holes still present at the butt.

What makes this one stand out is the combination of early Remington construction, gorgeous antique bone, the easy-open jack frame, and that Endicott Johnson Shoes advertising shield. It has the kind of crossover appeal that works for both vintage knife collectors and advertising memorabilia collectors.
