This Keokuk geode is collection release! I\'m dissolving my display of my best examples of the different minerals found in midwestern geodes. This is not a flashy piece of amethyst crystals from Brazil, this is a most unique find with probably the largest chalcopyrite crystals that can be found anywhere in Iowa. The geode is lined with multiple growths of calcite crystals, clear over tan calcite, quite lustrous and different crystal habits. The chalcopyrite crystals range from tiny to the largest, being purple/blue/green iridescent and 1/4\" in size. Other are simple tetrahedrons and some are twinned groups of crystals. Some bright gold in color others iridescent. It needs a good exploration with a microscope as often tiny malachite crystals form as an oxidation product on the chalcopyrite. Again many will not be impressed by this geode, but a true geode collector will understand the rarity and significance of this find. This beauty was dug from a Warsaw Formation exposure in Lee County, Iowa.
