A fantastic handmade studio pottery mug featuring an impressive three-dimensional sculpted bear wrapped around the body of the mug. The deeply textured bear, earthy brown and amber glaze, and sculptural construction give this piece a wonderful rustic woodland character.
This is much more than an ordinary printed animal mug — the bear itself has been individually sculpted into the pottery, creating a striking piece that works beautifully as both functional pottery and display art.
The underside says“Amy.” There appears to possibly be an additional marking or date beside the signature, but it is difficult to read clearly, so I am not representing the date as confirmed.
A knowledgeable pottery collector contacted me and suggested that the piece may be connected to Amy Romaniec / High Horse Farm Pottery, an American studio known for sculptural animal pottery. I have not independently authenticated that attribution,Please examine the included photograph of the signature and make your own assessment.
Condition:
Very good pre-owned condition. The sculpted bear and glaze present beautifully. Normal minor handmade irregularities and light signs of age/use may be present. No major chips, cracks, or repairs are visible to me. Please enlarge and review all photographs, as they form an important part of the condition description.
