Found in my Grandfather's attic, where it has been stored and unused for many years.
In very good all around condition for its age.Took plenty of photos so you can see the item clearly.

Title: Medal commemorating the "Emancipation in the West Indies"

The medal was produced to commemorate the ending of slavery in the British Empire on 1 August 1838.

Maker: Thomas Halliday — a well-known Birmingham die-sinker/medallist of the period, prolific producer of commemorative and political medals in the 1838

Material: White metal

Size: 42mm

Obverse legend given as: reads "WE ARE MEN AND BRETHREN,"

Reverse legend: "THEIR NAMES SHALL BE SACRED IN THE MEMORY OF THE JUST," with names in a palm wreath: Penn, Gran. Sharp, Wilberforce, Benezet, Clarkson, Brougham, Sturge, Sligo

Adocumented example of this medalis held in the collection of the National Maritime Museum, Greenwich (part of Royal Museums Greenwich).
