Antique 1904 St Louis World’s Fair Beveled Glass Jewelry Box Fine Arts BuildingDESCRIPTIONA beautiful antique souvenir jewelry box from the 1904 Louisiana Purchase Exposition, better known as the St. Louis World’s Fair.
The top features a period image of the Fine Arts Building beneath beveled glass, with the original printed identification still visible. The box is constructed with thick beveled glass panels set into an ornate gilt metal frame with decorative feet, hinged lid, and front clasp.
The Fine Arts Building was one of the most important architectural landmarks of the 1904 exposition and survives today as the core of the Saint Louis Art Museum.
The interior retains its original silk cushion, now heavily aged from more than 120 years of use and storage. The cushion could be replaced if desired, although it has been left original.
A wonderful surviving piece of American World’s Fair history and a beautiful display object for a collection of antique jewelry boxes, exposition memorabilia, or decorative glass.
