Antique 1905 "The Key of Heaven" Catholic Prayer Book ~ First Communion Gift, Inscribed & Dated

Here is an antique copy of "The Key of Heaven: A Collection of Approved Prayers for Catholics," published by John Bapt. Steinbrener, Winterberg Publisher, New York. This pocket-sized missal was given as a First Holy Communion gift, inscribed by hand: gladys strife lowville, n.y. The celluloid front cover depicts An Angle giving Communion to a kneeling girl, secured with part of a ornate metal and celluloid clasp.
Measures 3 1/2" long x 2 1/2" wide x 3/4" deep. Sold as a genuine antique estate piece in honest, well-used condition (details below).

"The Key of Heaven" was one of the most widely circulated American Catholic prayer books of its era, published with the imprimatur of Bishop Francis Silas Chatard of Indianapolis and carrying a note that Pope Leo XIII appointed the book's editor a Knight of the Order of St. Sylvester in recognition of his work publishing Catholic literature. The book contains prayers, devotions, and the Epistles and Gospels for Mass organized by feast day, including Candlemas and the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary.— a detail of interest to genealogy researchers as well as collectors of Catholic ephemera.

Sold as-is, honest antique condition reflecting its age and use. Binding is loose, with some light staining and wear throughout,The celluloid cover image and metal/celluloid clasp is only partially there. The clasp itself is missing
