Antique 1907 Edwardian Green Velvet Autograph Album - Ornate Celluloid Cover & Signed Poems
Up for sale is a breathtaking piece of turn-of-the-century social history—a genuine Victorian/Edwardian plush velvet autograph album. The front cover is a decorative masterpiece, bound in rich shades of moss and forest green patterned velvet, crowned with a heavy, multi-layered embossed celluloid relief that spells out "Autos" (short for Autographs) surrounded by highly detailed Art Nouveau style ivy, leaves, and pink morning glory florals.
The pages are finished in brilliant gold gilt edges, opening up to a wonderful time capsule of personal history belonging to a woman named Nettie Hurlbut.
📜 Fascinating Interior Content:
Unlike empty albums, this book is filled with beautiful turn-of-the-century fountain pen penmanship, including:
• A beautiful opening Christmas dedication: "To Nettie Hurlbut, From Aunt Annie. Merry Christmas."
• Heartfelt poems and sonnets signed by her brother Everett (written at Wilton, dated January 20, 1907) and her sister Sarah (also dated January 20, 1907), referencing friendships and wedding cake.
• A wonderful, humorous addition down the line dated Oct 1, 1913 featuring a folk-art style ink drawing of a round figure titled "Nobody loves a fat man."
✨ Condition Notes:
This album is in exceptional antique display condition. The velvet remains plush and soft, the raised celluloid artwork has no cracks or missing pieces, and the binding holds strongly. Pages have a lovely mild natural cream toning with zero brittle edges or major staining.
Perfect for collectors of antique books, Victoriana, historic ephemera, or unique coffee table conversational pieces!
