Charming antique carnival chalkware coin bank in the form of a seated pit bull dog, dating approximately to the 1920s–1930s. The dog is wonderfully expressive, with its original-style painted surface in cream, pink, red and black, a studded black collar, red base and coin slot at the back of the head.
The compact, slightly exaggerated modeling and beautifully aged painted surface give this piece tremendous character. Its broad head, muscular chest and compact build are wonderfully consistent with period representations of pit bull and related bully breeds.
The bank measures approximately 6 inches tall and approximately 5 inches wide across the base. It shows substantial age-related surface wear, including chips, paint loss, cracking, abrasions and other wear throughout.
