OverviewAn antique cast iron frame with a three-masted galleon in relief, sailing over rough waves inside a round decorated ring. It stands on a three-footed base. The finish is a worn bronze tone over dark iron. It makes a strong piece for a hearth, mantel, or as a heavy doorstop.
BackgroundThis design matches the ship speaker sold by Tower Mfg. Co. in the 1920s, when early radio speakers were often dressed up as decorative objects. The speaker unit bolted to the flat plate on the back; that unit is not included, so this is sold as a decorative piece only. The sails carry a lion rampant, a crescent moon with stars, and a crest, and the hull shows cannon ports. No maker\'s mark was seen.
ConditionGood antique condition. No cracks or repairs seen. Worn bronze finish with some surface rust and darker areas, mostly on the back. Base is attached with slotted screws. Speaker unit missing. Please see all photos.
