Antique / Vintage 1920s Mexican Tin Nicho Saint Peter Reverse Painted Glass Shrine

Authentic antique / vintage 1920s Mexican folk art devotional nicho (domestic shadow box shrine) featuring a central lithograph print of Saint Peter (San Pedro). Saint Peter is depicted with his traditional attributes, including the Keys to the Kingdom of Heaven in his right hand and a holy book or scroll in his left.

The central compartment is protected by its original front glass pane and adorned with colorful hand-cut foil accents. The frame features traditional hand-crafted hojalatería (tinwork) with side wings displaying stamped dot-and-punch detailing. The outer border is constructed from geometric strips of traditional red, yellow, and orange reverse-painted glass panels (vidrio pintado). The reverse side features a crude, classic box-like protective tin casing with a beautiful, heavy oxidized rustic patina.

This piece is in its original, untouched vintage condition. It features a natural aged patina, minor environmental wear, and oxidation consistent with age, preserving its historical integrity and collector value.

The tin structures and solder joints exhibit heavy, authentic surface oxidation, rust, and a darkened rustic patina. The interior paper lithograph and colored foil decorations are stable but show natural environmental toning and softening consistent with a 100-year-old piece. No attempts have been made to clean, polish, or repair the item.
