Bartlett’s Ohio Planes No. 124 handled screw-arm plow plane manufactured for Hibbard, Spencer & Bartlett and associated with production by the Sandusky Tool Company of Ohio. This is the No. 124 handled plow plane featuring a traditional wooden body, twin threaded wooden screw arms, adjustable fence, steel skate, brass hardware and an integral rear handle. The plane is clearly marked A.C. BARTLETT’S OHIO PLANES with No. 124 and additional E B markings on the toe. The E B markings appear to be previous owner identification marks.Period Sandusky specifications identify the No. 124 as a beech-bodied screw-arm plow plane with boxwood arms, boxed fence, screw-operated depth stop and rear handle. These planes were originally offered with a set of multiple interchangeable irons for cutting grooves of different widths. The adjustable fence measures approximately 8 inches long and the plane measures approximately 12 inches overall. This example retains its twin threaded wooden adjustment arms and turned wooden nuts. The threads remain functional and the fence adjusts properly. The brass depth adjustment hardware is present and operates as intended. The wooden rear handle remains intact. One steel cutter is currently installed and included. No additional cutters or irons are included unless specifically shown in the photographs. The wooden body shows considerable original character and patina. There are age-related checks and cracks in the wood, particularly around the marked toe area, along with scratches, dents, edge wear and other signs of long-term use. The cracks appear old and the plane remains assembled and operational. The metal skate and cutter show surface oxidation, darkening and age-related wear. Brass components retain an attractive aged patina. The plane has not been aggressively restored or refinished.A desirable American antique woodworking tool suitable for an antique tool collection, cabinetmaking collection, display or continued woodworking use.Condition details:
