Antique Adams England "Old English Sports" Large Cockfighting Mug - "Set Too."

Rare large size mug from the Old English Sports series by Adams, England. This pattern depicts historic English sporting scenes.

Front features a detailed polychrome transfer of two gamecocks in a fighting pit surrounded by a lattice fence, with posted signs reading "MATCH" and "RULES AND REGULATIONS." Bordered with beaded trim and sporting trophies - drum, hunting horn, ribbons and bows to the side. The opposite exterior has a black transfer floral spray of a large bloom and leaves.

Interior top has a small framed cartouche on each side that reads "Set Too." - a cockfighting term. Creamy off-white ironstone body with mustard/gilt band at the rim.

Bottom is marked with two black stamps: Circular mark with standing rooster "OLD ENGLISH SPORTS" with star, and shield mark "ESTBD 1657 ADAMS ENGLAND" plus red handwritten painter's number "2".

Great display piece for a collector of Staffordshire, sporting ware, gamecock / rooster, or tavern memorabilia. Use as large coffee mug, planter, or shelf decor.

CONDITION:

Vintage antique condition. No chips, cracks, or repairs that I can see. Light all-over crazing typical for age, some light speckling / staining inside, and light wear to the gilt rim band. Transfer colors are strong and bright. Please see all photos as part of condition.
