Antique Sherrod Family Framed Photograph Lot – Alabama
Offered as a set are two antique/vintage framed photographs associated with the Sherrod family of Alabama.
The larger portrait is identified in handwriting on the reverse as:
John Bolton Sherrod
Born 1838
Died November 3, 1893
The Sherrod family was a prominent Alabama family with documented ties to North Alabama history. The handwritten identification and other markings on the reverse have been left intact and provide important provenance for the photograph.
The smaller portrait is from the same Sherrod family collection.
CONDITION – PLEASE READ:
The ornate frame surrounding the large John Bolton Sherrod portrait is damaged and shows significant age-related deterioration, including chipping, missing decorative material and losses at multiple corners/areas of the frame. This damage is clearly visible in the listing photographs and the frame is being sold AS-IS.
The photographs have not been removed from their frames, cleaned, repaired or restored. Because of their age, additional wear, discoloration, spotting and other age-related imperfections should be expected. Please examine all photographs carefully as they are an important part of the condition description.
Despite the damaged frame, the large portrait retains its ornate period presentation and, importantly, the handwritten identification on the reverse.
An interesting historical and genealogical group for collectors of Alabama history, Sherrod family genealogy, North Alabama/Tuscumbia history and 19th-century photography.
Both pieces are being sold together exactly as found.
