Antique 19th Century Augarten Royal Vienna Porcelain Demitasse Cup And Saucer Beehive Shield Mark. Fine white translucent porcelain demitasse cup with a twisted 2-prong handle and small foot. Both pieces are decorated with a hand painted design of scattered gold grape leaves and gold bands on the rim.Marked in blue with a stamped cobalt blue Augarten Porcelain Manufactory Bindenschild crest (aka beehive mark) and the word Wien. Both bear a hand-inked black number 35. The cup is also hand marked with the numbers 70/6540.Cup is 2 1/2\" diameter at the rim and 2\" tall. Saucer is 4 3/4\" diameter and 3/4\" high.Excellent antique condition. No damage.
In 1718 Emperor Karl VI founded the porcelain house, which was taken over by Empress Maria Theresia under Imperial ownership in 1744. The manufactory experienced many economic and artistic high points until 1864, when it was closed. It was reformed in 1923 and continues the tradition of excellence today.
