This pole is about 34 inches tall and 5 inches in diameter. It is tin wraped over wood and capped on both ends. It has its original paint. It was painted red, white and blue. The paint has patinated to red, cream and green. You can see places where the green paint was a baby blue color. The top mounting bracket is original and still intact.
The wood inside the tin has rotted a bit over time. It is still solid. The wooden ball on top easily comes off. The iron screw used to attatch the ball is severely rusted and the wood inside has degaded as well. Gravity holds it in place when upright. The bottom bracket is missing and was attached to the bottom. It appears to have been an L bracket of some type.
There are some chips in the paint and some color fading. One side is better than the other due to one side getting more sun exposure over time. It has a wonderful original finish.
I would date it between 1870 and 1900. It is a unique sign. Probably hand made by a local tradesman or sign shop of the times.
This item will be custom wood crated for shipping and will require tools to open the crate.
