Antique Cast Iron Boot Scraper Double Shell c1880-1910 Victorian Era Style For Sale

Heavy antique cast iron boot scraper believed to date from the late 19th to early 20th century, approximately 1880–1910.Boot scrapers were practical fixtures commonly placed outside homes and buildings during the 19th century, when unpaved roads, muddy walkways and horse traffic made cleaning footwear before entering a building a daily necessity.This substantial example features two deeply cast scallop-shell forms surrounding a raised central scraper. The scraper itself has ornate cast scrollwork, reflecting the decorative ironwork frequently incorporated into otherwise utilitarian household objects during the Victorian period.The piece weighs approximately 14 pounds and retains its aged, unrestored surface with extensive oxidation, rust and patina. The underside shows the heavy cast construction, raised feet and original-style fastening of the central assembly. No maker’s mark has been located.Based on its design and construction, it is believed to date approximately 1880–1910, although an exact manufacturer and date have not been established.It is being offered as found and unrestored.
