tiny antique molded glass seated cat, measuring approximately 1 inch tall.
The cat is made of opaque black glass and is fully modeled in the round, with a molded seated body, paws, haunches and tail. It has contrasting amber-colored glass eyes and retains its original-looking metal collar.
Suspended from the front of the collar is a tiny purple bead, possibly intended to imitate amethyst. I believe the bead is glass and am selling it as such; it has not been tested as a gemstone.
The combination of the molded glass animal, applied eyes, metal collar and dangling bead closely corresponds to early Czechoslovak glass animal charms/novelties generally dated to the early 20th century and commonly referred to by collectors as Czech “Cracker Jack” charms or premiums.
This example is unmarked, so although the construction compares closely with documented/signed Czech examples, the country of manufacture and exact date cannot be guaranteed. I believe Czechoslovakia, approximately 1920s–1930s, is the most likely attribution.
The underside has a flat, roughly finished/ground base. No maker’s mark or country mark is visible.
Condition: good antique as-found condition for its tiny size and age. Surface has age-related dullness, deposits/soiling and wear. Metal collar shows oxidation/tarnish. Applied eyes and dangling purple bead are present. Please examine the photographs carefully for condition.
The piece has not been cleaned, polished or restored.
An especially appealing survivor for a collection of antique Czech glass, miniature animals, black cat collectibles, early glass charms or Cracker Jack-type premiums.
