Beautiful antique porcelain cup and matching saucer bearing the Davis Collamore & Co., New York retailer’s mark on the underside.
This striking set features a rich cobalt/navy blue ground embellished with elaborate gold gilt scrollwork, starburst and floral motifs. Delicate gilt floral decoration continues onto the white porcelain areas, with generous gold trim around the rims.
A particularly unusual feature is the cup’s naturalistic twig- or branch-form handle. The sculptural gilded handle appears to resemble a slender tree branch and gives the cup a distinctive decorative character not commonly seen on standard tea and demitasse sets.
The underside bears the red oval Davis Collamore & Co., New York retailer mark, along with a handwritten pattern or inventory number. Davis Collamore was a prominent New York retailer and importer of high-quality European porcelain. Because no separate manufacturer’s mark is visible in the photographs, I am not attributing this set to a particular porcelain factory.
The matching saucer carries the same elaborate cobalt blue, white and gilt decoration, making this an especially attractive display or cabinet set.
The cup measures 3" wide and 2.5" tall. The saucer is 5" wide.
Condition: Very good antique condition overall. No obvious chips or cracks are visible. There is some expected age-related wear to the gilding and decoration. Please review all photographs carefully for exact condition, as they form an important part of the description.
