ITEM DESCRIPTION -
The hotel was built for publican John Morse, with the original building designed by noted Brisbane architect Richard Gailey. Morse held the Excelsior Hotel licence from 1875, and the hotel retained the Excelsior name until it was renamed the Hotel Orient in 1906.
This glass features the beautifully engraved script:
“Excelsior Hotel”
It has a shallow coupe-style bowl, elegant shaped stem and circular foot. The style is consistent with late 19th/early 20th-century hotel glassware, making it an interesting piece of early Brisbane hospitality memorabilia.
Approximately 10cm tall, as shown.
Good antique condition with expected surface wear and marks from age and use. Please study the photographs carefully as they form an important part of the condition description.
