Antique Iroquois (Haudenosaunee) beaded whimsey or pincushion dating to approximately 1890–1915. This large six-pointed star-form example features a colorful hand-beaded bird with floral decoration on bright pink cotton, finished with a burgundy cloth backing and beaded edge.
These beadwork whimsies were produced in the Niagara Falls/Six Nations region as decorative souvenirs around the turn of the 20th century and are collected today for their craftsmanship and folk art appeal.
Approximately 9 inches across (not including beaded tassels)
Good antique condition with expected age-related wear. Scattered wear to the pink fabric, minor bead loss, and several of the original looped beaded tassels are missing. The remaining beadwork displays well, and the cushion retains its original form.
