Beautiful traditional Japanese black formal kimono featuring an elaborate lower-hem design of stylized rough waves (aranami), chrysanthemums and traditional geometric motifs in warm ivory, gold, rust, brown and muted green tones.
The garment has 5 small kamon family crests on the upper body and a dramatic asymmetrical design concentrated along the lower portion of the kimono. The restrained black upper field contrasted with the richly decorated hem gives it the classic appearance of a formal kurotomesode.
The original Japanese inventory tag identifies the garment as:
アンティーク 正絹 / pure silk / rough-wave and chrysanthemum motif / embroidered tomesode / display use.
Measurements (approximate, measured flat):
• Length, back neck to hem: 64 in
• Wingspan, sleeve tip to sleeve tip: 51 in
• Sleeve drop: 20 in
• Body width across back: 24 in
• Sleeve opening: 8.5 in
Condition: Antique condition with age-related wear. There is visible discoloration/fading on an area of the exterior back and one localized foxing/brown discoloration spot on the interior lining. The lining otherwise appears generally clean. Wrinkles and storage creases are present. No attempt has been made to clean or restore the garment.
Please examine all photographs carefully as they form an important part of the condition description.
