Antique Kendal Brown Tobacco Jar Lamp Base - sold by Bloomingdale’s. For Sale

This is an antique Kendal Brown Tobacco Jar mounted as a lamp and sold by Bloomingdale’s. The jar itself is an inky brown with much of the “Kendal Brown” label worn away in a very pleasing manner. The piece is heavy salt-glazed pottery and the incised line above the foot seems to be an original flaw and adds to its rustic character. The silhouette of the pottery is like a plump ginger jar. Interestingly there is part if a Bloomingdale\'s, sticker on the back …showing some if the unmistakable pre 1973 store logo, the word “England” and the number 72 - maybe part if a price but more likely something to do with the store;s centennial. I’ve including sije images from the great 1973 book “Bloomingdales guide to Interior Design”. (It was very popular and there several copies fir sale on right now). They were famous for selling great antiques as well as cutting edge modern design in those days; they sold so many lamps made from antique bases they would advertise the. As “wired in our own workrooms”. The pictures include a room setting with a very similar lamp and some events from 1972 showing their recreation of a European antique fairs - the “72” makes me think this was from one if those promotions. The finial is included. There is no shade included, but I’ve shown one photo with a shade similar to that in the book. There is aa cluster mounting, a line cord switch and a 4 foot cord. The rather “primitive” antiquing if the metal work and short cord are my own fault…it’s probabably safe but I’d recommend re-wiring by a professional, this piece is worth it. Because if those issues and that the weight dimensions to will make thus expensive to ship I’m open to reasonable offers.
