Up for sale/sale is a museum-grade example of historic Scandinavian cutlery engineering: an original Antique Swedish Barrel Knife (Tunnkniv), handcrafted by Pontus Holmberg in Eskilstuna, Sweden.

Dating to the early 20th century, this is a scarce large-format 4-1/4" closed model featuring a figured Scandinavian Curly Birch (Masur Burl) barrel, solid steel end caps, heavy brass chassis liners, and its original keychain/lanyard ring.

Mechanical Function & Design:

• Ingenious Locking Mechanism: Depressing the lock release allows the brass inner frame to slide smoothly out of the outer barrel. The 3-3/8" blade pivots open manually, and sliding the brass assembly back into the barrel locks the knife completely rigid, providing the strength of a fixed blade with the safety of a completely enclosed pocket folder.

• Stamped Brass Liners: Crisp factory mark on the brass inner frame reading "P. Holmberg / Eskilstuna / Sweden".

• Swedish High-Carbon Steel: Features a half-height ground clip point blade that retains full profile and sharp edge geometry.

• Figured Wood Barrel: Beautiful, dense curly birch burl showing rich amber figure and bird's-eye/flame chatoyance, bordered by solid steel end caps.

Physical & Cosmetic Condition:

• Blade & Pivot: The 3-3/8" high-carbon blade opens smoothly and cleanly. Full original profile with crisp grinds and intact tip. Minor superficial age patina consistent with antique Swedish steel, but completely free of deep pitting or chips.

• Mechanism & Lockup: The internal release spring functions properly; the chassis slides smoothly in and out and seats with a secure lockup inside the barrel with solid retention.

• Handle / Barrel: The curly birch burl wood is solid, tight, and crack-free with rich natural luster. Steel end caps are firmly seated with honest vintage patina. Ring bail is intact.
