Antique Ralph Hall Transferware Plate For Sale

Englishman Ralph Hall made china transferware, first with his brother and later with his son, from 1803 to 1848. The process, developed in Staffordshire, England, in the late 18th century, involves transferring a pattern to a copper plate, then to paper, and then to the finished pottery. This plate in cobalt blue is marked Warleigh House Somersetshire and is part of Hall’s “Select Views” series. The Warleigh manor house was completed in 1815 and is an early example of the 19th century Tudor Gothic revival in England. There are three tiny kiln firing spits on the outer rim of the front and some light utensil marks mainly in the middle of the front side. Otherwise, it is in very good condition. Diameter is 8-1/2”
