Unusual antique agricultural and botanical seed specimen collection housed in its original fitted wooden presentation case.
The collection contains 36 glass specimen vials arranged in three rows of twelve, each holding a different variety of agricultural or botanical seeds.
Visible specimens include varieties of corn, beans, peas, grains, and other seeds. Many of the vials retain their original small paper identification labels, with some names still partially readable.
The fitted wooden case has three divided compartments, an attractive old finish, and decorative brass-colored hardware. This may have been used as a seed salesman’s sample collection, agricultural teaching aid, or botanical reference display.
Believed to date from approximately the early 20th century.
Measurements:
* Approximately 10 inches wide
* Approximately 9 1/2 inches deep
* Approximately 1 3/4 inches high
Condition: Estate-fresh antique condition with age-related wear throughout. The wooden case has scratches, scuffs, finish wear, discoloration, and minor edge wear. The brass-colored hardware shows age-related tarnishing and wear.
The hinges have old nail attachments, and some of the hardware is presently detached or not securely attached. The case is not currently fully assembled or functional as originally intended.
The glass vials show age-related cloudiness, discoloration, and accumulated residue. Paper labels exhibit fading, staining, and wear. The seeds are old, and their condition, exact identification, and viability have not been tested.
Offered as found, uncleaned and unrestored. Please examine all photographs carefully for condition and completeness.
An interesting antique agricultural collectible for a country store display, farm museum, botanical collection, seed company memorabilia collection, or early educational scientific display.
