RARE VINTAGE 10¢ "SENERO CLASSIC" COUNTERTOPCIGAR BOX DISPLAY GLASS PANEL
Free Shipping for Domestic U.S. Buyers
FREE GIFTAs a free gift I'm including this vintage five cent Exquisitous Cigar Glass Display Panel, pictured above.Just a personal thankyou for your patronage.
Up for sale is a beautiful, highly authentic piece of early 20th-century American Tobaccorianahistory. This is an original countertop cigar box display front panel advertising premium **10¢ Senero Classic** cigars.
In the 1910s, a dime was a lot of money for a single cigar. Fewer merchants ordered 10-cent premium display hardware compared to the incredibly common 5-cent nickel cigar fixtures, making the Senero panel much harder to find today.
This is a very rare and highly sought-after piece.
While paper and wooden Senero cigar boxes pop up occasionally among Midwest antique collectors, substantial glass-and-metal countertop display 10 cent Sennero pieces from turn-of-the-century are incredibly hard to find. Most were broken, discarded, or lost when commercial cigar manufacturing consolidated mid-century.No public sales records or sale archives exist for aSenero Classic 10¢ glass countertop display lid. While standard paper labels and wooden boxes from the H. Derksen & Sons factory surface occasionally in the Midwest, this specific glass advertising component appears to be entirely unrecorded online.
This item was appraised at $300.00 but I am taking offers on the piece.
The Senero brand has a fantastic, localized history, manufactured by the legendary **H. Derksen & Sons out of Oshkosh, Wisconsin** during the city's historic tobacco boom era. The third photo is of the original H. Derksen & Sons shop in Oshkosh Wi. & is just used as a visual reference.
### KEY FEATURES & DESIGN* **Artistic Craftsmanship:** Features high-quality **reverse-glass painted typography** in rich burgundy, crisp white, and premium gold-foil style lettering.
* **Hardware:** Outfitted with its original decorative cast-metal top corner accents and the factory-fitted structural rear spring-wire display bracket. This cradle was designed to hold a wooden cigar box wide open at a perfect angle on a general store or apothecary counter.
### HISTORICAL DATATIONCirca 1910–1920. The "10¢" price point marks the exact era before and during WWI when factories introduced higher-grade premium "Classic" lines to appeal to upscale hotel and lounge clienteles.### CONDITION REPORT**Excellent "Barn-Find" Condition.** This piece was recently recovered from an old estate barn in the Fenton, Michigan.* The glass is completely solid with NO cracks, chips, or deep scratches.* The critical reverse-glass lettering remains incredibly stable, vibrant, and shows minimal flaking or moisture degradation—which is remarkably rare for paint of this age.* The original rear wire bracket is intact, functional, and sturdy.* Please review all photos carefully as they serve as the final description of the exact item you will receive.
"Please note: The vintage photo of the storefront is for historical context only and is not physically included in the sale."
### SHIPPING & PACKAGING SAFEGUARDThis is a historic glass artifact. It will be professionally packed in heavy-duty bubble wrap, double-walled cardboard formatting, and shipped with full insurance and tracking via USPS Priority Mail. History of Senero CigarsThe history of Senero Cigars is tied directly to a forgotten industrial boom. The brand serves as the crown jewel of the Oshkosh, Wisconsin tobacco boom, which thrived from the late 19th century through the 1920s.The Manufacturer: H. Derksen & SonsSenero cigars were manufactured by H. Derksen & Sons (later known as the Derksen Cigar Company), which was located at what is now 418 N. Main St. in Oshkosh.
  • The Founder: The business was originally founded in the 1870s by Theodore Derksen. By the turn of the century, it had grown into the largest and most influential cigar manufacturer in the entire region.
  • The Senero Brand & The "Taste Tired" Marketing
Introduced around the turn of the century, Senero was marketed heavily across the Midwest as the ultimate premium, everyday smoke. Historical newspaper archives reveal how Derksen positioned the brand:
  • The Recipe: Senero was a "Clear Havana" style cigar. It utilized imported, age-mellowed Cuban filler tobacco wrapped in a fragrant, spicy Java leaf wrapper.
  • The "Taste Tired" Campaign: In 1916, Derksen ran a massive regional advertising campaign targeting men who were "taste tired" of cheap, bitter nickel tobacco. Senero was marketed as a soothing, "brow-smoothing" alternative that promised permanent relief from palate fatigue.
  • The Family of Shapes: To capture every class of smoker, the Senero line was sold in seven distinct physical shapes, including the Senero Banquet, Senero Sensible, Senero Panatella, Caprice, Epicure, Perfecto Grande, and the Cardinal.
Pricing and PrestigeThis specific glass panel showcases the 10¢ "Senero Classic." Before World War I, a dime was a premium price for a cigar. While working-class men bought standard 5-cent nickel cigars, the 10-cent, 15-cent, and 20-cent Senero variations were sold at luxury hotel stands, downtown lounges, and upscale drugstores. The End of the EraThe era of the hand-rolled Oshkosh cigar came to a rapid halt in the 1920s. The invention of automatic, high-speed cigar-rolling machines allowed massive East Coast corporations to flood the market. Small-batch, localized family operations like H. Derksen & Sons could not compete with mechanized automation, and Senero faded into history by W.W.2.Today, original Senero advertising artifacts are highly prized pieces of Wisconsin folk history and industrial ephemera.
